Dr. Steffen is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with Sports Medicine Associates of San Antonio in San Antonio, Texas. He is also affiliated with Foundation Surgical Hospital of San Antonio, The Center for Special Surgery at TCA, and Methodist Healthcare in San Antonio, Texas.. He specializes in sports medicine and the surgical treatment of shoulder, hip, and knee injuries. Dr. Steffen performed his fellowship in sports medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center – San Antonio (2000 – 2001). In the US Air Force Medical Force, he served as USAF Flight Surgeon at McConnell AFB in Kansas, Theater Flight Surgeon in Restore Hope (Somalia, Africa), and Teaching Staff for Emory Riddle University in Florida.  Dr. Steffen attained board certification in orthopedic surgery through the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS).

Richard T. Steffen, MD, is a 1987-graduate of the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine in Miami, FL. His postgraduate training includes his one-year internship served at Keesler Medical Center (1991 – 1992), as well as orthopedic surgery residency conducted at San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium/Wilford Hall Medical Center at Lackland AFB (1994 – 1998). Dr. Steffen is fellowship-trained in sports medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center – San Antonio (2000 – 2001). He completed his undergraduate education at the University of Miami in 1987. He attained board certification in orthopedic surgery with the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS).
